Canggu vs. Seminyak: which one actually fits you
Both are south-coast beach towns 15–20 minutes apart, and both get recommended constantly — which makes them easy to mix up. The difference comes down to pace and polish.
Choose Seminyak if you want
Finished pavements, boutique shopping, fine dining, polished beach clubs, and a walkable centre. It's the more comfortable, more expensive, less "in-progress" of the two.
Choose Canggu if you want
A younger, more casual energy: surf-focused cafés, co-working spaces, and a wider spread of budget-to-mid villas. Infrastructure hasn't fully caught up with growth, so expect more construction and traffic.
Traffic is the deciding factor for some travellers
Canggu's rapid growth has outpaced its road network — the main strips can be slow-moving most afternoons, and a short scooter ride sometimes takes longer than expected. Seminyak's more established grid handles the same volume slightly better, though neither is quiet at peak hours.
Price difference
As a rough guide, a private villa room runs from about USD 35/night in Canggu versus USD 60/night in Seminyak, and a café meal is typically a little cheaper in Canggu. Neither is dramatically more expensive — the bigger difference is the type of experience each town is built around.
Can't decide?
They're close enough that many visitors base themselves in one and visit the other for an afternoon or a specific beach club. If you're only picking one, match it to your pace: Seminyak for a more finished, relaxed few days; Canggu for a livelier, surf-and-café rhythm.
